The idea for Doctor Lavender arguably came after I watched Doctor Strange in 2018 and was inspired to create some universe around the idea of "wizards defending earth from supernatural threats". The most recent iteration rose out of the ashes of my waning short-lived hobby of drawing political cartoons during the pandemic. While taking a break from cartooning, I toyed with more serious and elaborate storytelling and art. One of those ideas was a dark horror parody of 'My Neighbor Totoro'. That never came to fruition, but the characters and plot fragments from that effort served as the basis for the tsundere young witch, Kiara Kwan, and her semi-trusty cat-boy sidekick, Hiroki.

To the unassuming layperson, Kiara and Hiroki are the ordinary proprietors of Café Lavender, a modest coffee shop in Alhambra, California. But many also know Kiara as Doctor Lavender, the legendary underground witch who can cure anything and everything. The stories below follow their friendship and their adventures as they battle demons, mystical diseases, and the corrupt wizarding world, as they embark on a lonely quest to cure society of its ills.
